John Ellis | St. David's College Old Davideans Association
It is with great sadness that we report the news that Old Davidean John Ellis (Ellis-Cockell) died suddenly while on holiday with his wife Deanna. John will be known to many of you from his years on the ODA Committee, many of them as Chairman.
Will Seymour, former Headmaster and John's Housemaster during his time at St. David's, writes about John as a St. David's pupil and his dedication to the ODA over the years:
John joined the school in 1981 and left from the Upper Sixth in 1985. After his arrival as a member of Cader he quickly established himself as a personable, lively and entertaining young man. On the sporting front his great strength was as a member of the 1st XV but his enthusiasm shone through in the great variety of house competitions he became involved in, from house swimming and house football to house reading and house plays. His outgoing personality came across most effectively when he was performing on stage. Many of the friendships he established at school remained strong until the present day.
As a member of the ODA Committee, and particularly as its Chairman, he was generous with his time, his ideas and his contributions to fundraising.
His loyalty to the school has always been greatly appreciated and we shall remember him with fondness and gratitude. Our sympathies go out to Deanna, his family and his friends.
