Pam Mayor at 90

Tim Hall and David Ward visited Pam Mayor recently as she celebrated her 90th Birthday. Aside from being the wife of John Mayor, the visionary founder of St David’s College, past pupils will also fondly remember Pam tirelessly manning the laundry and the tuck shop as well as fulfilling an endless list of selfless and invaluable roles in the day to day running of the school. Here she can be seen reading our newly published 'Three Peaks' Education Model, which directly reflects the principles put in place, and maintained at the schools foundation.

Old Davidean Nick Cogger Appointed as Housemaster of Tryfan

The ODA is extremely proud to announce that for the first time in its history, St David's has appointed an Old Davidean, Nick Cogger, as Housemaster. Nick will be Housemaster of Tryfan House from September 2017.

Nick has been working at St David's College as a dedicated member of staff for 10 years as both a Residential Assistant and an IT/Computing and Production Arts teacher.

He was a student and Tryfan boarder at St David's from 1995 to 2000 and is the middle child of three brothers who came through the school.

Kenneth Maude Visits St David's

The Chaplain welcomes 96 year old Kenneth Maude to St David’s College. In 1965 Kenneth was chair of Kingsmead Prep School in Hoylake where John Mayor was Deputy Head. Kenneth encouraged John on his Venture of Faith and pioneering vision to establish St David’s and in a very real sense Kenneth stands as one of the ‘giants’ in the remarkable story of the foundation of the school.

Tribute to Frances Marshall

Sadly, the lovely Frances Marshall, former teacher of Music at St. David's, passed away last month. Her funeral was a wonderful celebration of her life followed by afternoon tea at St. David's College.

This tribute to Frances has been written by Tim Hall who along with former SDC teacher Pete Leavers was officiating at Frances' funeral:

ODA Sports Travel Scholarship

This year, Old Davideans Oli and Jonny Seldon donated a £750 sports travel scholarship to SDC. This has been awarded to Roy Eniagu one of our superstar First XV to enable him to go on the rugby tour to Georgia. The boys are there right now! SDC is the first ever school to take a rugby tour to Georgia! We will keep you posted on their progress!

John Ellis

It is with great sadness that we report the news that Old Davidean John Ellis (Ellis-Cockell) died suddenly while on holiday with his wife Deanna. John will be known to many of you from his years on the ODA Committee, many of them as Chairman.

Will Seymour, former Headmaster and John's Housemaster during his time at St. David's, writes about John as a St. David's pupil and his dedication to the ODA over the years:

THE JAMES WEBB CENTRE

On a beautifully still day we witnessed the launching of a legacy. The James Webb Centre was officially opened. Family and friends gathered with staff and pupils to dedicate the centre to future generations of students who will benefit from the expertise of SDC staff combined with the use of cutting edge technology. It was a privilege to meet with James' mum and family on a very emotional but joyous day.
