FRIDAY 31ST MARCH - 6PM - FACEBOOK LIVE EVENT - FUNDRAISING FOR THE SPORTS PAVILION | St. David's College Old Davideans Association

Join us on Friday at 6pm for our Facebook Live presentation and fundraising event from the Headmaster's Study at St. David's College. For those of you who are local and would like to attend in person please do come along for cheese and wine!

Imagine this situation - you are a visitor to the school, maybe a prospective parent; you drive up on to the forecourt; you look around; you see the magnificent building on your left hand side, the wonderful vista over to Bryn Pydew on your right. You may see relaxed looking pupils moving from one class to another; they may even smile a greeting to you. You decide to walk down to steps onto the terraced lawn. You see the cannon on your left, Hercules on your right; you look over the wall and see the moat, the all weather pitches, tennis courts, the games pitches. What an idyllic view! It was this view, John Mayor is reported to have said when he first saw it, that confirmed to him that this was the perfect place for St David’s to be located.

But then you look down and you see, next to the tennis courts, a scruffy white shed, and this is you now, the Old Davidean, not any old visitor, and you think to yourself, “Well, that’s been there for years, what  a mess, what an embarrassment!” And perhaps you wonder what opposing teams think about St David’s when they come to play their matches.

And this is the reason that we decided that a new pavilion was needed.

All of the work so far has been done pro bono by Old Davideans. The original drawings were created by Alice Seldon, ex Head Girl and now a Governor, and then finalised by James Roobottom, now a successful local architect; he did this with input from some current 6th Formers. The groundwork will be carried out by Alex Chesworth, and the timber frames will be provided by Chuck Venables. Additionally the local builders’ merchant, Richard Williams, whose owner Nigel Stewart had three daughters at St David’s, one of whom was Head Girl, will provide all needed materials at cost.

We already have some of the finance in place, but of course we need more, and this is where, we hope, you come in.
This the plan - there will be different levels of donations, and for each level the donor will be named, with his/her house and date of leaving, or the donation could be anonymous if the donor so wished.

There will be a presentation and meeting on the afternoon of March 31st (the end of term) in the Head’s study, at 6pm, headed by Deputy Head Andy Russell, Old Davidean Daniel Lycett, who is now Director of Sports at St David’s, Old Davidean and former Head Boy Jonathon Seldon and Old Davidean James Roobottom. Obviously we realise that only locals will be able to attend, so the presentation will also be available Facebook Live on the Old Davideans Association page, link below:

Finally, when the pavilion is completed, there will be a celebration opening to which all donors and helpers will be invited.

We hope that you feel that this is a really worthwhile project, and that we can rely on your support.
